Child sexual abuse is still considered a taboo, but it still exists. One out of five minors will suffer from it before turning 17, as denounced by the Council of Europe. Only one out of ten tell, and in many occasions they are not believed. Of those who dare to talk, 70% never go to court due to a lack of evidences. Besides, one of the problem appointed by Save the Children, after analyzing 200 cases, is the torment the kids have to go through during the trials.
There are more cases of child molestation among girls than boys. They start to suffer from them at earlier stages. The victims complain there is a total lack of support. They need an average of 10 years of therapy to recover from the damages they have.
We have talked to victims of child sexual abuse to understand what it means such a terrible experience and to understand the help they need.
