Josep Planas is a photographer and a compulsive collector. Founder of CasaPlanas, in his archives rest an important part of the history of tourism in Spain.
It would be bold to say that Planas was the inventor of the postcard. He was, however, the first to understand that it should be addressed from an industrial perspective. Planas opened his first store in 1947 and went out of business in 2002. After almost six decades of uninterrupted activity, his work rest now next to the ruins of the old Lumière theatre. In this warehouse lays his whole life, his passion for the sea, the discovery of the souvenir or the vestiges of 22 shops dedicated to build a collective fantasy: the idea of tourism as a way of outflow.
Postcards & Memories is a documentary about the memory, about tourism, about nostalgia, about misery and hedonism. About leisure and about entertainment, about love and landscape. A documentary about the unquestionable power of the image and the commecialization of memories, but also a tribute to an island that exists no more.
